6 types of sparklers we’re using

We’ve been using sparklers for many years on top of our tubes, no need to explain why. The technique is very simple: we attach a sparkler on top of the tube using two elastics :)

Tips:

Use a butane torch instead of a regular lighter. This is making things much easier when working outdoors in the wind
Kim is keeping her eyes closed and she’s looking down for most of the shots (let’s keep it safe!)
Stay further back from your subject
Compose left/right with the wind (ideally with the wind blowing on the empty space of the frame)
Do fast movements for longer sparkle trails

Here’s the list and a couple of details

1- Regular birthday sparklers

These are the easiest ones to find, but also the less powerful one. But as you can see on the picture above, there is still a way to make these small ones shine. What’s the trick? Wait until it’s a bit darker. This is not going to work at the beginning of the blue hour, but leaning toward the end of it, you’ll start to reveal the magic of these small sparklers

2- Ice Fountains

Ice Fountains are fun to play and they are the only kind of “non regular” sparklers that are widely available. They come in 30 and 60 seconds versions. I normally start testing with the 30s, then I move on with the 60s when everything seems right

3- Morning Glory

These are the most unpredictable ones. Most are going to pop for a few seconds to create these very interesting bursts, but it’s very hard to control, they don’t last very long, and they vary a lot from brands to brands.
